A young woman in central Vietnam is recovering after doctors removed a 10-centimeter-long steel spoon from her intestine earlier this month.
Nineteen-year-old Phan Thi Thu Ha, a student in Quang Tri province, was hospitalized on April 8 after swallowing the spoon while drinking lemonade, reports Thanh Nien. According to the news outlet, the spoon “managed to go down her throat instantly, even before she realized she had gulped it”.
After studying her x-rays, doctors determined the spoon was lodged in her small intestine and at first attempted to remove it through her throat without success. Three days later, Thu Ha received an operation to retrieve the utensil and is now spoon-free and in stable condition.
