Uniqlo Vietnam is reportedly planning a second outlet in Saigon, an abrupt move that comes as a surprise during a time when local shoppers are wary of being out in public places.
Japan's largest seller of no-frills, simple fashion will be coming to District 7's VivoCity some time this year, according to a March 23 announcement reported by Tuoi Tre. The brand, however, has not made an official announcement about the expansion on its social media and website yet at the time of writing.
The location in the mall will cover more than 2,000 square meters and sell a wide range of male, female and children's attire. There isn't an exact date for the opening, though Uniqlo said it would be in the spring or summer of this year.
The new location will be slightly smaller than the 3,107-square-meter outlet that opened in District 1 this past December, as well as Hanoi's 2,500-square-meter location that opened on March 6.
There has been no mention of a potential change to the opening timeline in response to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. As of the time of writing, both Vietnam Uniqlo stores are open, with many mask-wearing patrons required to have their temperatures taken before entering the stores. Despite the health situation, many flocked to the Hanoi location's launch earlier this month.
Uniqlo currently operates 2,200 stores across 25 countries with estimated sales of US$21.53 billion in 2019.
