Train travel in central Vietnam is about to get more nostalgic.
As Bao Moi reports, the Ministry of Transport recently approved a proposal to add steam locomotives as an option for trips on the Hue-Da Nang route. The proposal is a collaboration between Dong Duong, a company that provides train services, and the Vietnam Railways Corporation.
The proposal was submitted back in May this year by the private firm in hopes of adding two steam engines to the list of trains running between the two cities, according to Tuoi Tre. To prepare for the project, Dong Duong worked with a train production company to restore three steam engines, presumably to have one in reserve, and to assemble new passenger cabins.
By the time the locomotives are ready to hit the rails in the fourth quarter of this year, the company will have also finished other facilities needed to service steam engines, such as water supply stations and movable bridges.
