This Is What Happens When You Mix Dumplings And Phở

American chefs continue to show their love of phở by twisting it into everything from cocktails to burritos. While the above concoctions claim both fans and detractors, this new creation out of Brooklyn, New York might be a bit less divisive.

Instead of going way outside the box, chef Mary Nguyen mixed our beloved phở with another Asian culinary staple – dumplings - to create…wait for it…the Phumpling.

The Phumpling is soup dumpling, similar in style to those found in dim sum, but with the traditional flavors of phở. Inside the dumpling skin is shredded beef, broth, herbs, lemongrass, onion and the rest of the cast that makes up the soup’s flavor profile.

According to Gothamist, Mary Nguyen and her partners Ceasar Saingchin and Tom Nguyen got the idea for the dumpling during one of their regular pho eating sessions where they explored how to recreate phở in different forms:

"Over the course of a year or so, we've had Phở Burgers, Phở French Dip, Phở Crostinis and I'm sure other forms have been made. Then the idea of putting phở into a soup dumpling happened," Saingchin told the site.

The crew has been selling their creation at local weekend markets where they charge $3 for each Phumpling.

I bet I could eat about a dozen of these.
