A new decree that goes into effect tomorrow will raise fines for a number of ‘social evils’ already on the books while adding a few new ones.
Let’s break it down, shall we?
- Leaving elderly, weak, disabled, pregnant or nursing family members without care - VND1.5 – 2 million.
- Mistreating family members by dictating their diet or berating them for wearing torn clothes or poor personal hygiene - VND1.5 – 2 million.
- Wife scolding husband/husband scolding wife – VND1 million.
- Abusing, nagging or insulting the honor and dignity of family members – VND500,000 – VND1 million.
- Defecating in the street – up to VND300,000.
- Failing to produce identity card when requested by authorities- VND100,000 – VND200,000.
- Working as a private detective in any form - VND5 million - VND10 million.
- Giving money, property or other material benefits to administrative workers – VND3 million - VND5 million.
- Selling your body (sex workers) - VND100,000 - VND300,000.
- Picking up a sex worker - VND500,000 - VND1 million.
- Pimping - VND5 million - VND10 million.
These fines seem pretty legit but we imagine that enforcing them will be a nightmare.
