Report: Vietnamese Online Shopping Market Climbs to $2.77 Billion

3 reports on Vietnamese online shopping trends have been released recently with drastically different numbers. But no matter which is correct (one has to be correct, right?), it’s clear that web purchases are becoming increasingly popular.

The largest report, conducted by the Vietnam E-commerce and Information Technology Agency (VECITA), found that 57% (19 million) of Vietnam’s 34 million internet users shop online.

Assuming that each online shipper spends $150 per year, Vietnam’s e-commerce market would be worth $2.77 billion, according to a study by Visa.

Other reports by VC Corp and VECITA estimated that market’s value at $2.2 billion and $550 million, respectively.

The internet is quickly becoming the preferred media platform in Vietnam as the VECITA report found that local users spend as much as 36 hours per week online. Locals are watching less television (14 hours per week), reading fewer print newspapers and magazines (10.5 hours per week) and barley listening to the radio (3 hours per week).

That’s great and all but when does Amazon start shipping to Vietnam?
