[Photos] Red Tide Hits Mui Ne, Forcing Tourists To Swimming Pools

A seafoam composed of critter-destroying algae, also known as red tide has hit Mui Ne – Phan Thiet, making the beaches unsafe for swimming and relegating tourists to their swimming pools.

VietNamNet reports that the red tide arrived a few days ago, leaving a trail of dead sea life strewn along the Phan Thiet’s beaches.

Locals said that the annual event takes place in the sixth month of the lunar calendar and will stick around for weeks.

“According to the Institute of Oceanography, the material on the beaches is caused by a species named Phaeocystis globosa. It said it only occurs in the summer,” wrote VietNamNet.

I hope nobody’s planning a trip to Mui Ne anytime soon.
