Wavy tracks and all, work is quickly moving ahead on Hanoi’s aboveground Cat Linh-Ha Dong railway. Seemingly on pace with Saigon’s first metro line, last week workers moved ahead with tricky girder installations.

These concrete girders, each weighing in at 235 tons, were installed and adhered together 20 meters above the street to create the platforms onto which train tracks will eventually be placed, reports Zing.

More than 20 engineering experts oversaw the installation that started at 12am last Wednesday and completed by 5am. Given the weight of the girders and the height they were installed, workers had to ensure there were neither vibrations from the street nor strong winds as every move was precisely measured down to the centimeter.

The China Railway Sixth Group, a subsidiary of construction conglomerate China Railway Group, is the EPC (engineering, procurement, and construction) contractor for the metro that has been under construction since late 2011. It is scheduled to open in 2016.
