The Vietnamese version of Microsoft’s MSN portal officially went online Wednesday as the company hopes to capitalize on the country’s growing online market.

Users inside Vietnam will now be redirected to MSN Vietnam when they visit msn.com which will also include a local news section with content coming from VietnamPlus, Tuoi Tre, VTC and Lao Dong. Global news will come from sources such as The New York Times, Bloomberg and the BBC among others and will be translated into Vietnamese, reports Tuoi Tre.
The portal will focus on entertainment, sports and finance news and will be accessible via a mobile app which will launch in the coming months.
This comes on the heels of the news that Yahoo is pulling out of Vietnam, leaving us wondering whether if the move is coincidental or strategic?
Maybe Microsoft will reintroduce is Hotmail while they’re at it.
