According to police in Can Tho's O Mon District, 21-year-old Tran Van Co was arrested this week after marrying a girl seven years his junior.
The couple began living together 10 days after falling in love at a local coffee shop. When Co's father went to the girl's house (pictured above) to seek permission for the two to marry, he added that Co would kill himself if the marriage proposal were rejected, reports Tuoi Tre.
Last Sunday, the two families held a wedding ceremony with 120 guests without incident.
However, the local government, less than enthusiastic about the union, launched the investigation that eventually led to Co’s arrest.
