One of Tan Son Nhat Airport’s two runways will be closed for four days after being damaged by lightning on June 30.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) announced on Tuesday that the runway would be shut down from July 16 -19 to repair breaks in the tarmac, reports VnExpress.
Though 10sqm of runway 25R/07L was patched up following the lightning strike, the repairs have proved ineffective as the newly placed asphalt peeled off during subsequent rains.
This time around, the airport will restore the runway to its original condition by digging through and replacing three layers.
During the repair period, the country's largest airport will be able to serve only 30 flights per hour compared to 35 flights currently, said CAAV.
Airlines have also been asked to prepare for delays due to the reduced capacity.
