Last month, director and screenwriter Jordan Charles Vogt-Roberts scouted locations in Vietnam for his upcoming film, Kong: Skull Island, the prequel to the 2005 Hollywood blockbuster King Kong.
Now, apparently, Vogt-Roberts has made it official, with Zing confirming that the film will be shot in three locations – Australia, Hawaii and Vietnam – beginning in early 2016.
Though there's no word yet as to where the cast and crew will be, Vogt-Roberts' scouting trip included visits to many of the locales featured in 2015's Pan, starring Hugh Jackman, which featured footage of Hang En, Ha Long Bay and Ninh Binh, though it failed at the box office.
For Kong: Skull Island, which stars Tom Hiddleston, Samuel L. Jackson, Brie Larson and John Goodman, the film's director visited several locations last month, including Quang Binh's Hang En cave, Ninh Binh and the northernmost reaches of the country, home to many of Vietnam's ethnic minorities as well as some of its more surreal landscapes.
Though there's no word yet on where exactly the movie will film, it's exciting to see Vietnam making it to the big screen elsewhere in the world.
