Well, here’s your ‘what the phở?’ story of the day. A 30-year-old Ho Chi Minh City man has been arrested for throwing acid on 5 young women in a bout of jealousy.
On Sunday, while waiting for a taxi outside of a house on Nguyen Van Cu Street in District 5, the 5 women were attacked by Nguyen Van Dung who threw acid on them as he sped by on his motorbike.
When the victims tried to find shelter in a nearby house, Dung ran after them and continued to throw acid. In the ensuing chaos, a 45-year-old and two 11-year-olds were also burned by the acid.
After the attack, Dung attempted to escape but was detained by locals until the police showed up.
When being questioned, Dung admitted that he had professed his love to one of the women but was rejected. Upon learning that she was on the way to Phu Quoc for her engagement ceremony, he became unhinged and committed this grizzly act.
All of the victims were taken Cho Ray Hospital. While some were discharged the same day, 2 of the women, including the main target who suffered the most serious burns, remain in the hospital.
Perhaps Dung can drown his sorrows in alcohol next time like the rest of us...
