While Chinese bridges have made big headlines recently – and, later, made terrifying headlines – the technology used to construct China's everyday bridges is pretty impressive.
In this Tech Insider video, timelapse footage captures the mammoth and epically named SLJ900/32 Segmental Bridge Launching Machine as it puts together a bridge piece by piece, carting pre-casted segments to and fro to connect the bridge's spans. For an idea of just how big this 580-ton machine is, take a look at the workers standing beside it on each span as it moves along.
This machine also appears to be a souped-up version of the same vehicle that's laying girders for Saigon's forthcoming metro line. Up north, Hanoi has one of its own as well, which seems a bit closer to the Chinese mega machine.
