The Ministry of Health’shas decided to consider changes to the recently proposed legislation that would ban the sale of liquor and beer between 10pm and 6am after meeting public resistance, according to Tuoi Tre.
“After having listened to public opinions over the last few days, we are thinking about more flexible solutions,” said Nguyen Huy Quang, head of the Legislation Department under the health ministry.
The draft law, announced last Friday, would not only prohibit stores, bars, restaurants and eateries from selling alcoholic drinks after 10pm, but limit the amount sold to each customer, according to Tuoi Tre:
“Sellers would only be permitted to sell a can of beer per hour, and no more than three cans a day to each male customer, while the limit for female customers is one can for every two hours and no more than two cans a day.”
News of the ban had people questioning whether it would be an efficient use of police resources.
There are, however, some more logical provisions such as prohibiting the sale of alcoholic beverages to people who are under 18, pregnant women, or those who have reached the drinking limit.
