City authorities announced yesterday that they would cut down 57 more trees located in 23/9 Park, adjacent from Bến Thành Market, to make way for the new metro station, according to Tuoi Tre.
Last week, 51 trees, some over 100-years-old were felled in front of the Opera House for the same purpose.

To ease concerns, Nguyen Van Dung, deputy director of the Urban Traffic Management Division No.1, said that his team would try to cut down as few trees as possible and are exploring options to replant them elsewhere.
In addition to the trees, it’s been reported that Flower Street and the statues in front of Bến Thành Market will be moved to accommodate construction of the city’s first metro line.
