A fire roared through a District 8 parking lot on Saturday afternoon destroying hundreds of motorbikes, leaving a scene that resembled a warzone with hundreds of burnt out bike frames littering the scene.
According to Tuoi Tre, after detecting smoke at the parking lot on Cao Lo Street, local residents rushed to put out the fire using buckets of water and fire extinguishers. However, by the time the fire was brought under control by 40 firefighters and 7 fire trucks an hour later, nearly 300 motorbikes had been burnt to a crisp at an estimated loss of VND2 billion.
Initial investigations identified a neighboring landfill as the starting point of the fire where it quickly spread, engulfing 600m2 out of total 1,800m2 of the parking lot.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the inferno.
The burning question (pun intended) is: who will face liability for the massive loss of property?
